Amanda Gummer from the www.goodplayguide.com has created a great session for us. Two in five parents find holidays with their children stressful, according to a recent UK survey by Dr Gummer’s Good Play Guide.
The main causes of stress for these parents were found to happen before the holiday itself, with worries about keeping children entertained on the journey (67%), remembering what to pack (43%) and fitting everything in the suitcase (39%.)
Child psychologist Dr Amanda Gummer comments ‘ Parents cam make sure they are as prepared as possible for the journey but arming themselves with a variety of games and a few well-chosen travel toys. But a little boredom is a good opportunity to encourage children to be creatieve and make up their own games too!’
Despite how stressful some family holidays can be, 4 out of 5 parents believe they are worth the hassle. Parents believe that breaks away give children valuable quality time with the family (95%) and a great chance to enjoy new experiences, including visiting new place (87%) and trying new activities (76%.)
‘In the chaos of our day-to-day lives, it is easy to get tied up in other things and holidays give families a chance to reconnect’ says Gummer. ‘Introducing your child to a range of experiences can be a great way for them to discover new hobbies whilst giving your child the confidence to approach more unfamiliar experiences in the future.’
Te research, which surveyed 369 parents, found that half of UK families will be holidaying in Europe this year, while a third will choose a ‘staycation’ in the UK.
