Employees Matter is delighted to report that a UK business has set up a pioneering initiative by offering employees paid time off to support their family or dependent.
This month Coventry Building Society announced that it will give its 2,500 employees up to 3 additional paid days off if they face life changing events relating to their family or someone who they care for.
The business is demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of its workforce by launching this ground-breaking employee benefit called Carers’ Flexibility.
Under UK law, all employees have the legal right to take a ‘reasonable’ amount of time off work to deal with an emergency involving a family member. This time off is usually unpaid. However, the launch of their new initiative allows employees to take paid leave in such instances on top of their annual holiday leave.
“We understand significant life changing events happening outside of work can have a huge impact on an employee’s general wellbeing and peace of mind. Finding the best way for home and work to fit comfortably together is an important focus for the Society.
“This enhancement to our Wellbeing offering provides paid time-off for more challenging life events such as helping a family member transition into a care home but also for those precious moments, such as a child starting school for the first-time.” Lucy Becque, HR Director, Coventry Building Society
